You plug in an x-value into the equation and you will get your y-value thus giving you the point. So for instance in your first equation, you plug in an x-value of 2, f(2)= (2)^2-1 you will get 3, so your point will be (2,3) you can keep doing this by picking other x-values and plugging them into your equation to get your y-values then you can graph them.
